This is it!

The advice I would give someone doing a scientific research paper would be to make sure you have a clear idea of your topic. There are so many things to choose from so keep it simple so you don't get frusterated in the research phase. I feel I have improved in searching the Kaplan library. That can be the most time consuming and confusing part of writing a research paper. I also feel I have improved in forming my paragraphs. The part I feel I need to improve is my sentence structure and writing more clearly to get my point across. I know that is what revising and editing is for but I think with more practice I will not have to do as many changes. This was fun and I enjoyed getting the change to write my thoughts down here. Thank you and goodbye.

The end is in sight!!

I have mixed feeling about my paper. I am relieved to make it to the end of this class fairly unscathed and I have learned a great deal. I also feel nervous to be graded on something I have worked hard on. My hope is that my paper is understandable and written well. Writing is not my favorite thing to do but with all the direction given to us from Kaplan, I feel I have a great chance of becoming good at it. Thank you!

Wrapping up the class

Well, it looks like we are getting close to wrapping up yet another term here at Kaplan. I feel this blog has been fun and I like to express my feelings. I haven't had too many people comment on my blog but that is okay since I really just write for myself. I don't think I will continue to write here but if any other class requires me to post to a blog then I will already have the experience. Thank you for allowing me to learn and grow. Sincerely, Kari

Peer Review Week

I believe peer review is an important part of the writing process. It allows another person to see things you might have missed. My experience with peer review is limited since I have only taken one other writing class but I found it to be positive and encouraging. It is interesting to research a topic that I didn't know anything about so the whole process of searching for pertinent information is eye-opening. Thank you for giving support to me and I will surely do the same for others.

Unit 6 blog

I can't believe it is already the sixth week into the term. I appreciate all the direction we get from our Professor and the writing center. I have struggled with this paper a little bit but I know I can focus and hopefully turn in something I can be proud of. I look forward to reading others papers. Have a happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Writing techniques

I have a couple techniques that seem to help me with collecting ideas for a paper. I like to brainstorm first by listing ideas just to get a place to start looking for my research. Next, I like to freewrite because it allows me to just start formulating my thoughts into sentences after reading selected articles. Have a nice week everyone and good luck!

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood!

I have a pretty good idea that I wouldn't want anyone borrowing or stealing something I worked hard to write. I can totally understand the need to place sanctions on anyone who does commit plagiarism. I learned about Wikipedia from a class I took several years ago and the instructor had someone change her post to represent something untrue. She was very upset as you can imagine. I certainly would not use that as a reliable source for anything since it is opinion-based rather than fact- based and anyone can write in it. Citing our sources gives the author the credit they deserve for taking the time to write their article. Honesty is the best policy in life, I believe. I know for a fact as a beginner, I need help with my words and ideas as a writer but I believe in following the rules. Have a great week everyone!
